WHO launches WASH & NTD toolkit
Practical guide to intersectoral collaboration for WASH and NTDs
"No water, no health" the message was loud and clear from Dr Mwele Malecela, Director, WHO Department of Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases, during the launch of the new WHO WASH-NTD toolkit on the 31st of January 2019.
Dr Maria Neira, Director, WHO Department of Public Health, Environmental and Social Determinants of Health stated: “Targeted water and sanitation interventions will bolster efforts in tackling the many neglected tropical diseases,”
NTD and WASH agencies and practitioners have long been aware of the benefits of working together to achieve common goals, however the how-to has been difficult to determine leading to obstacles and challenges. The WHO together with the NTD NGO Network WASH working group have now launched a practical step-by-step toolkit to develop these intersectoral partnerships and implement WASH interventions to progress the sustainable control and elimination of NTDs.
WHO and NNN now call on the NTD and WASH communities to test out the toolkit, to collect valuable evidence and feedback for the next iteration of this useful resource and to improve and accelarate progress to reach the targets of the 2030 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
