COR NTD 2018 Engage to Eliminate
The Coalition for Operational Research on Neglected Tropical Diseases (COR-NTD) is a coalition through which all of the members of the NTD community can contribute to defining key research needs and priorities. Coalition members play an important catalytic role in improving the effectiveness and impact of NTD programs by creating new synergies within the arena of operational research and, importantly, aligning the research with program needs. COR-NTD meets formally each year around the time of the ASTMH annual meeting, with participation from researchers, the World Health Organization, country program managers, implementers, and funders
Working Groups comprised of NTD experts from a wide range of backgrounds are coming together to focus discussions on key themes, providing important guidance on the NTD research agenda. This years theme is "Engage to Elimnate" and 27 breakout discussions were selected following a call for proposals to the NTD community. The sessions will cover all five NTDs amenable to preventative chemotherapy, as well as visceral leishmaniasis, Chagas disease and leprosy.
Coalition members were also invited to nominate candidates for the fourth-annual Kyelem Prize, which recognizes outstanding contributions to NTD elimination efforts. The Prize, to be awarded during the closing plenary session, is given in memoriam of Dr. Dominique Kyelem to an individual who embodies his qualities of thoughtfulness, open-mindedness and commitment to the cause.
This meeting provides an opportunity to review research progress with funders and to establish new research goals to support NTD programs and to facilitate the global efforts of WHO and endemic countries to overcome these diseases.
Please note this meeting is closed - it is now at full capacity and there will be no onsite registration.
