Webinar | Integrating prevention of Female Genital Schistosomiasis into women’s healthcare services in Côte D’Ivoire

01 Mar 2022

This pilot study, to effectively and sustainably integrate Female Genital Schistosomiasis (FGS) into the national health system in Côte D’Ivoire, managed by SCI Foundation, with implementing partners Programme National de Lutte Contre les Maladies Tropicales Negligees a Chimiotherapie Preventive (PNLMTN-CP), the NTD programme within the Ministry of Health of Côte d’Ivoire, took place in seven health centres in Soubré district. The strategy aims to ensure that women attending routine services for HIV/AIDS and female reproductive health, who are aged between 15 to 29 years old, are routinely offered FGS preventive treatment.

The study looked to improve preventive treatment coverage in this at-risk group and to find the best approach for integration; this involves training the health workers to offer preventive treatment and to raise awareness of FGS prevention during routine consultations.

In this ISNTD-Connect webinar, the first of our new series on Delivering on Women's Health, we'll hear from Dr Kouamin, the Project Coordinator of the FGS pilot study, Mr Timite, a nurse in Soubré district, Dr Kane, the head doctor of a health centre in Soubré district, Côte d’Ivoire and Ashley Preston, Associate Programme Advisor from the SCI Foundation.
