2021-2030 road map for schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis elimination in Cameroon

Schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiases (STH) are public health problems in Cameroon, with over 5 and 10 million people at risk of infections, respectively. Cameroon launched its first strategic plan for the control of schistosomiasis and STH in 2004. Over the years, significant progress has been achieved. Large-scale treatment has decreased schistosomiasis and STH prevalence by 70% and 90%, respectively. Details of achievements are summarized in the 2003-2019 progress report published in 2020 by the National Programme for the Control of Schistosomiasis and Intestinal Helminthiasis. In 2017, the country committed for the elimination of schistosomiasis, and in 2021 the new road map for schistosomiasis and STH 2021-2030 was endorsed by Statutory Members and Stakeholders of the National Committee for the control of schistosomiasis and STH.

“Towards elimination of schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiases in Cameroon: a road map for paradigm shift 2021-2030” is a high-level strategic document, aimed at strengthening programme and country ownership for schistosomiasis and STH, in line with the WHO NTD road map vision. It is a call to action for all stakeholders to align their strategies and plans towards the elimination of schistosomiasis and STH in Cameroon.
