Webinar | The END Fund - Journey through Nigeria: Ending neglected diseases
Join the END Fund on a virtual trip to Nigeria where we will immerse ourselves in the culture, history, and music of Osun and Ekiti States. Together, we will visit the beginning of civilization at the town of Ile-Ife, stop by the world-renowned Olojo Festival, and experience the unique landscapes of the southwest region. Despite this beautiful country being the most populous and one of the wealthiest countries in Africa, Nigeria also bears the greatest burden of neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) on the continent. As of 2021, over 160 million people are in need of treatment for at least one NTD. But eliminating NTDs is possible and within reach; the question is not if but when.
We will hear from documentary photographer, Adebayo Abayomi, Founder and President of the Amen Health Care and Empowerment Foundation, Chief Rita Aizehi Aimiuwu Oguntoyinbo, and Founder and Executive Director of MITOSATH, Dr. Francisca Olamiju, about their commitment to end these diseases. Finally, we will be visited by the Head of Department, Planning, Research and Statistics of Nigeria’s National Blood Transfusion Service, Dr. Adaeze Oreh, who will cover the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on our NTDs efforts. Together, we will learn what Nigeria and the global community can do to ensure that millions of people have access to these life-changing interventions.
