Mireille Sylviane Dongmo Nguepi

Lecturer, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Science, University of Buea, Cameroon

Dongmo N. Mireille S. is a lecturer in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Faculty of Science, University of Buea, Cameroon. Her research focuses on drug discovery and diseases. She is working on the effect of medicinal against diseases, particularly schistosomiasis. She holds a master’s degree (Dschang University, Cameroon) and a PhD (University of Yaounde I, Cameroon) in clinical biochemistry and pharmacology.

Medicinal plants effective against schistosomiasis should be active against at least a stage of the developmental stage particularly the worm stage and strengthen the immune system as this will allow to break the life cycle, prevent reinfection and help in strengthening the immune system. This should help in the control and management of schistosomiasis and other NTDs as this can downregulate the immune system and allow coinfection. Dongmo’s previous research has focused on the epidemiology and cercaricidal aspects of the disease in collaboration with molecular biologists, microbiologists and parasitologists.
